About this/me

This project is a remix project started by Jamison Young (song-writer) on the 3rd day of October 2009. The idea here is simple. I don’t want to pay for music production unless other people are interested in the song. Sites like CCmixtr.org show how remix can work, still though the creative commons licenses lack the ability to be able to integrate into the established system of copyright for creators. In simple, the songwriter owns the song, you as a remixer own what you create, yet if you contribute what you create to an existing mellody and words, then your making a song sound better, as soon as you start to remix someones song, your a promoter of that artist.

What i;m interested in doing is creating a license that encourages the remixer to remix, not much is made out of music these days for the new creators from the sale of sound recordings and regular publishers seem mostly interested in working with artists that already generate income via what they create. US rights organization ASCAP/BMI operates under non-exclusive conditions, where as rights organizations outside the US operate (Gemma, SABAM, OSA, TONO, APRA) under exclusive conditions, artists are at the mercy of the net, in many instances dealing with rights in contradiction to agreements they have in place and not being aware of this. Solutions exist, every situation is different when it comes to a remix of music.

My hope is that i can bring artists together through remix, creating licenses that could then be used by others. Similar to what creative commons does, yet more specific to needs of “creators”. Artists want to make what they create free often, yet also want the ability to be able to integrate into the system already in place. A middle ground seems needed. As i find artists that want to work with my songs, I hope to create licenses and then share these licenses with other creators freely.

Looking for lawyers from both sides of the fence.
